This week we had some fun with paints, DIY stamps and a Halloween pumpkin / bat theme! I got both boys involved and my 1 year old also “helped” setup.
You will need:
- Stamps made of sponge, foam or as I did upcycle a ruined floor mat.
- Tempera paint (green, black, orange) and plates that allow the use of the stamps
- Paper, I have used A3 sheets
- Optional extra: googly eyes and a paintbrush or earbud to draw faces
Firstly, cut your shapes out, mine is made from a really broken floor mat but you can use a sponge or foam as well. I cut out a thing that looked like a leaf, a few pumpkins and 2 bats.
I also used 3 plates for the green, black and orange paint which I got by mixing the red and yellow until it reached the desired color. The A3 paper sheets are taped down with painters tape (masking tape) so that when the kids stamp the paper doesn’t lift up when they try to remove the wet stamp.
Let the fun begin! I began by demonstrating the technique of take this stamp, rub it in the paint and stamp it on your paper to the boys. They picked it up very fast and were stamping happily away when I brought out the googly eyes and an earbud each to add a face to their creations. Much chatter was had about the about eyes on the bats.

My kids love to paint and stamps make getting those shapes so much easier! What a fun activity 🙂

Children do love to use stamps and lots of paint to make “their” own picture. I am sure the little minds could be quite creative with Halloween stamps and “spooky” colors. Fun!
