It’s time for playful preschool again!
This weeks theme is nuts and seeds. Remember that you can find other ideas for nuts and seeds at the bottom of this post from my blogging friends in the playful preschool group! Follow the hashtag #playfulpreschool on social media too.
For this week I once again went the simple route while our newest member of the family (3 weeks old this week!) had her nap. This activity was done with my 2 and half year old as well as my 5 year old.
I gathered a few measuring spoons as well as a jar of chia from the cupboard, then set up in a tray on the craft table.
Our first goal was to explore the measuring spoons. Let your kids scoop from the jar into smaller containers. In my case I had a few bowls as well as empty spice bottles.
Moving the chia around is great fun for the kids. Count how many large spoons it takes to fill a bottle vs how many little spoons.
Once the bottles are full they get to turn them upside down and watch the chia flow out of the spice holes!
I also love the chia for picture or letter drawing on a tray. Add a thin layer of chia and have fun making shapes!
Lets not forget the sensory bin! Funnels are great.
Other things we have made with chia include slime and edible water beads!
Pin this idea for later!

We’ve never explored chia seeds before. Seems like I might need to give them a try. I like that they are small enough to shake out a shaker.

Great idea for a sensory bin filler! It is perfect for scooping into and shaking out of the spice containers.

That is a great activity for building fine motor skills. I love the idea of using the chia seeds as a surface for drawing too.
