There are so many toys on the market these days it can become rather overwhelming when looking for something in the puzzle department for instance and you have no idea what to get!
These are our favorite puzzle related items for under 3 years old.
Oh and my 4 year old loves them too!
Update! : I found these awesome magnetic puzzles for my 2 year old and she just can’t get enough of them. Out of all 4 of my kids I think she is the most serious puzzle builder.
We started out with a 2 piece jungle animals set then moved up to a 3 piece crazy animals set and then a few weeks ago I got her the dress up set which is also 3 pieces.
Lots of 2 piece puzzles are also on the agenda most days. We love the Things I eat set and the heads and tails set. There are many sets that also have a combination of pieces, farm usually wins with my kids!
Tons more puzzles for your 2 year old to 3 year old
The classic Jigsaw Puzzles just got bigger with the Farm Friends Floor Puzzle that is great for developing matching skills.
I love the use of color shape puzzles with the early development bonus of the Beginner Pattern Blocks for ages 2 up from Melissa & Doug, as well as their Pattern Blocks and Boards for ages 3 up. My kids love these boards!
Melissa & Doug’s Deluxe Latches Board gets my vote for developing fine motor skills with the use of brightly colored metal locks, latches and clasps. There are even some hide-and-seek pictures behind each door!
Wooden Magnetic puzzles are also high on our favorites list from fishing to “towing” cars numbered 1 to 10. For puzzles like these the handy storage rack is a great buy.
Dress-Up Puzzles are great for girls and even boys, I have seen a cool fireman one too!
I have heard only good things about the Color Magna Tiles, they make a great 3-D puzzle. Friends of ours also have some awesome Magnetic Puzzle Cubes at their house that the kids flock to every time we visit.
We love dinosaurs, the Dinosaur A to Z Puzzle makes a great play as well as display!
Another “puzzle” type item we love is our Alphabet and Number Floor Mat. We recently searched for things to do with them other than playing puzzles and came up with a big list of 15 Plus Ideas for the Puzzle ABC or Number Foam Mat.

Great list! We love some of these puzzles! The rest are on the wish list! Also it’s a good thing I went more with games or we would have had the same things on our lists!
