Make a Pencil Bookmark Back to School Craft
To make your own bookmarks you don’t need fancy supplies, just a few common crafting items will get the job done. Look below at this back to school pencil bookmark craft for kids, and see how easy making your own fun bookmarks can be.
Here is what you will need:
wood craft sticks
yellow craft paint
paint brush
black marker
scissors
craft glue
pink felt or pink craft paper
For this project, you want to use the big, wide craft sticks since they make more durable bookmarks. Avoid using the skinny slender sticks as they aren’t as good at holding pages.
Back to school craft directions:
Begin by adding two coats of yellow paint to the craft stick. You only want to cover about ¾ of the stick, leaving the top of the stick for the “lead” of the pencil. Add two coats of paint and allow to dry.
While the paint is drying, cut out the eraser of your pencil bookmark. Take pink craft felt or craft paper and cut it into a half oval shape. A great way to get the shape is to trace the end of the craft stick, then cut out the eraser shape.
Add a dab of glue to the back of the felt and press it to the bottom of the stick. It should look like an eraser when done. Trim the edges if the shape needs cleaning up.
Once the paint is dry, create the pencil lead at the opposite end of the stick. Use the black marker to make a simple triangle and color in the point.
Your pencil bookmark is now ready to be enjoyed. To use it, just place it on the page you want to hold and leave a small portion of the bookmark out at the top.
This back to school craft is a great way to kick off the new school year while also encouraging kids to read. Gather your supplies and give them a try, then you never have to worry about losing your page again!
