Introduce kids to different jobs in the community while appealing their senses and using their imaginations to figure out what they are touching. This Careers- Touch Feel and Guess Sensory Box is a fun addition to your community helper unit.
Careers Touch Feel and Guess Sensory Box
Our sensory box was inspired by our community helpers unit study, especially the book Career Day by Anne Rockwell. A look at visitors sharing their careers at a school career day.
The best part about this activity is that it doesn’t have to cost a dime or take much time to put together, I am even sharing a list of ideas and items with you to get you started.
All you need is :
- a good-sized box,
- a towel or fabric to cover the top
- items that hint towards different careers
Gather up as many items as you can to add to your box…
You can place the items in your sensory box one at a time or place them all in and allow your child to explore. Cover the box with a towel or a piece of fabric so they have to use their sense of touch.
They can guess as they feel an item or you can give a career and ask them to feel around until they find the item that the person might use in their job.
To take it further make sheets or cards with the different jobs written on them and let your child match them with the objects.
For handwriting practice, they can copy your words…
