Once your little ones master the A-B-Cs, the next step in development is mastering beginning sounds. These printables are the perfect way to help your children practice the beginning sounds of each letter of the alphabet as they fill in the missing letters.
Fill In The Missing Letters
Learning and strengthening beginning sound skills is more than just “a is for apple” and “b is for ball.” Those are great starters, but there is more to language development than that. Filling in the missing letters can help your children to strengthen necessary skills to learn how to read and write.
Here’s another great Beginning Sounds Activity: Truck Themed Beginning Sounds
What’s Included
There are three pages included in this set. Each page has a certain set of letters that it focuses on. For instance, the first page is “A-H,” followed by “I-P” on the second page, and “Q-Z” on the third. Your child will fill in the missing letter for each word.
Each page has two columns. Half of the letters are in one column and the other half are in the second column. The column includes a picture (like an apple) along with the word spelled out, but without the beginning letter. At the bottom of each column is a block with hints for what the letters could be. These hints will help your child to fill in the missing letter.

How To Prep & Use
There are a few options when it comes to prep. If you want to use this activity only once, you can just print and go. Children can write the answers in the blank spaces. They can also use scissors and glue to cut the letters and then glue them in the correct place. As long as they are filling in the missing letters, they are doing the activity correctly.
Materials For Single Use:
If you want to use this beginning sound set over and over, you can laminate it and use a dry erase marker. If you don’t have a laminator, you can use dry erase pockets. That way you can fill in the missing letter over and over again.
Materials For Multi-Use:
Children will love this activity. It is simple enough that they won’t get frustrated, but challenging enough that it will help them strengthen beginning sound skills. When they fill in the missing letters, they will be strengthening their overall language and reading skills.
