DIY toys has always been something I have been into making for the kids. It gives me a sense of accomplishment and if the older kids can help all the better!
Today I made these shakers for my now 7 month old baby. I can see her enjoying them for quite a few months. Heck my 4 year old even came past to give them some vigorous shakings so I know that they are going to stand the test of time.
I have used various items in the shakers to produce a different sound to each color of egg. I have 6 colors and made 2 of each.
I used lentils, white beans, rice and chickpeas. On the extra two I mixed lentils and rice and then beans and chickpeas. I used these easter eggs.
Originally I tried to use superglue to keep the eggs together. All that got me was my hands full of superglue and the eggs breaking as soon as they got any pressure. I returned to using my trusty hot glue gun. Although you will have to be a bit fast with the joining because of the cooling it worked VERY well! I also got NO glue on my fingers.
I have made a how to video to demonstrate the method I used to make the shakers!
