Don’t you just love personalized keepsakes! This year I made some handprint ornaments, one for each child (4).
Here is how I did it!
To make a Keepsake Handprint Ornament you will need:
Baubles – Mine were medium size so bigger would have worked better I think.
A cup of some sort to hold the baubles while the glue drys. We has some plastic shot glasses I use in the kids play.
White school glue and glitter, earbuds to clean the print up if needed before adding glitter.
A sheet of paper to catch extra glitter and a damp cloth to wipe off glue hands.
Next you will need to get some glue on your child’s hand. Let me tell you I tried this with my 13 month old! She tried to grab everything in sight and eat it. I eventually held her one arm under my armpit to trap it while she sat on my lap and I worked with her other hand and the glue.
I had to do the print twice on the ornament. If you have to also redo a print just wipe off the glue with your damp cloth.
Remove the bauble fast from the little ones hands before they smudge their fingers together. You might have to make this print a few times with the younger ones!
Once you have your print use the earbud to clean up any smudges if you need to. Set it on the cup to get its glitter.
Wipe the glue off the little ones hands before they have time to put it in their mouth! or rub their eyes or smear it on your and their clothing :-/
The older children are a treat to work with! here is my 3 year old holding her hand out for me to glue ever so patiently.
And the 6 year old making perfect little glue finger prints.
Thank you little dears!
Now before your glue dries on each bauble I recommend adding the glitter before moving on to the next print. Put your sheet of paper under the cup which is holding the bauble so it doesn’t roll away and tap some glitter onto the glue.
Excess glitter and be funneled back into the glitter bottle by bending the paper a bit.
Once the baubles are dry add a date on the other side!
I used each child’s initial and the ’15 for the year in a little glitter pen 😀
To preserve the print and keep the glitter from falling off check this tip out!
Since the 13 month old has smaller hands hers came out very compact and pretty. The other kids also look great though! I definitely recommend using a larger bauble!
Have fun!

Your handprint ornaments look great! I wanted to do this with my daughter too. Do you have any ideas on how to keep the glitter from rubbing off over the years? Thanks 🙂
