Today’s post is all about learning the alphabet! I have a few ideas that have worked well with my children, as well as an ABC poster I’m sure you’ll find useful.
My 6 year old has only recently taken an interest in learning letters. I love that we waited until he was ready and didn’t force it upon him. He has also made a great role model for my 3 year old who wants to do everything he does. Right now she is going to go ABC before she talks!
Learning the Alphabet with an ABC Poster
To encourage my 6 year old to sound out his letters, as well as work on letter recognition, I made this ABC poster for him. The letter (A4) is available for free to all my subscribers. (Sign up here for great ideas in your inbox and links to my freebies) The larger version is available on Zazzle!

We use a few resources to play and learn our ABC, it is currently still a work in progress. As we go through our letters this year I will add more links to this post. (see my ABC & Numbers archive)
So far I have made a nifty ABC Photo Book (with Free Printables) and I have been eagerly using our copy of The Preschool Journey as a rough guide to ABC learning fun.
Another thing I found interesting was to use LeapFrog ABC with my one son. He seems to learn better with visualization aids like leapfrog. My other 2 also enjoyed watching and we were able to advance to saying the T says t (sound) for most of the alphabet.
This definitely has helped me to introduce sounding out the alphabet better. I can now take this foundation and apply lessons, arts, crafts and activities or books to encourage further development.
I also think that learning ones name is high on the priority list. Get your free customized printable name sheet here.
What are some of your favorite ideas for teaching the alphabet? How would you use this free ABC poster?
