These make such a great noise, just loud enough, not too loud! It’s much more fun to make enough for yourself, all small kids in your house, and for both hands if possible, as all will be attracted.
This one is very fun for social and controllable active indoor play (but Harvey also lay down for a few minutes playing with one too). I naturally came up with lots of ideas to extend the play, but we also all just sat around shaking them and smiling at each other while enjoying the sound! There’s something therapeutic about it.
Materials:
- Plastic easter eggs
- Large plastic spoons
- Tape or washi tape
- Lentils / rice / beans / straws / anything that can make a noise inside the egg.
- Optional glue
Add a bit of your prefered filling into the egg. The egg should make a nice rattle type sound when shaken. Tape or glue the egg closed. Place the egg between the 2 spoons and use tape to secure them together. Use more tape at the base of the 2 spoons to secure the handle.
Have fun with your child and their new musical instrument!
This idea isn’t JUST for 1 year olds!
There are 40 more activities in the book and ALL include an activity variation AND “As They Grow” section, making this a Grow-With-Them book.
Activities are suited to 1, 2, 3 and even 4 year olds!
You’ll really get your money’s worth!
