Prewriting is an important skill for preschoolers and kindergarteners. This concept is necessary so that children’s hands can be strong enough for tasks they will learn in their future like writing, tying shoes, etc. Encouraging children to strengthen their hand muscles can be fun, though, with activities such as these Patriotic Prewriting Printables!

What Is Included?
This prewriting printable set comes with activities that can be used in two different ways: prewriting & scissor practice. Both of these are important skills to practice and can be done together.
Children will follow the dotted lines with either a marker or scissors. This is absolutely fabulous for strengthening the muscles in the hand. Initially, children’s hand muscles aren’t strong enough for writing, tying shoes or zipping a zipper. Activities like this will help strengthen these muscles.
They also help children know how to hold a pen or scissors and manipulate it so they can accomplish the task.
Prepping the Activity
Prepping these prewriting activities is super easy and you’ll only have to do it once!
Print out the activity sheets.
Start by using your scissors to cut the page in strips, depending on which part you are using.
For the prewriting mats, once they are cut, laminate them. This will increase the number of times that you can use the activity. You could also use dry erase pockets if you don’t have a laminator. A less expensive alternative, is using a re-closable bag. These may not last quite as long as dry erase pocket or lamination, but they are a fabulous alternative!
