Today, we go into nature!
There are so many awesome things to do in nature, from collecting materials to do art with to exploring everything nature has to offer.
Here are just a few things to do while on a nature walk.
Firstly have FUN! Let the kids explore their surrounds before even starting to prompt them with the suggestions below. Natural exploration is important.
1. Dressing for the occasion
Loose clothing and comfortable walking shoes make for a nice and relaxed trip. Also consider adding a hat and some sun screen.
2. Sights on your nature walk
What does it look like? Ask about color, shapes, the sky, ground, trees, are there any animals? Did the animal see us too? Don’t forget about the bugs and butterfly’s.
3. Sounds on your nature walk
What do we hear? Is there water running, is the wind blowing the leaves in the trees, are the insects buzzing?
4. Touching and feeling
If you know that the leaves are not something like poison ivy or have thorns, encourage touching of leaves to feel different textures. Touch some rocks / pebbles, sticks or leaves.
5. Smelling
Are there flowers to smell? Do the leaves smell? Is there dirt, does it smell earthy?
Other ideas
Take a camera with to document a few things to talk about later. Take a magnifying glass with to study things up close. Collect samples to take home to play or experiment with.

Great ideas! We love to play in nature whenever we can, and as the kids get older, I am wanting to teach them to appreciate it more – the sounds, the sights, etc. 🙂
