Welcome to another awesome essential oil recipe collection!
First up you are either excited for these recipes or you are scratching your head thinking what is this woman talking about?!
Well a roller bottle is a place to keep a liquid mix of a blend you made of oils! We usually dilute these oils with a carrier so a roller bottle is the perfect place to keep them. Not to mention it’s way easier to apply too!
Disclaimer: (Cause you know I got to put it here!) I am not a medical professional, I do not and cannot diagnose anything. Use these recipes as they suit you and your family. People with sensitive skin are advised to use a higher dilution ratio. The below recipes are intended for adults unless specifically stated for children. When using Essential oils on children please consult the proper reference materials.
The below information was first shared in my facebook class!
How to Apply and Remove Young Living Roller Fitments
Some of the oils you are able to apply neat (meaning without dilution) and you can snap on the metal roller straight onto the essential oil bottle. I personally only use Lavender neat as I am generally sensitive to essential oils so I do dilute others.
Always use a glass roller bottle for essential oils! A metal ball is recommended with citrus oils because they eat the plastic! Young Living provides us one in our starter kit.
I loved this video on how to change the rollers:
Let’s talk carrier oils! Do you have a favorite?
A few I have heard of work very well are:
- fractionated coconut oil – coconut oil broken down to remain liquid and last longer
- sweet / almond oil
- grape seed oil
- young livings V6 carrier oil which is a mix of various carriers
Olive oil does not work well because it is thick and as such does not apply very well via a roller bottle.
Did you know?
Essential Oils if stored correctly will last indefinitely. BUT once you mix them with a carrier oil in your roller bottle they take on the expiry date of the carrier oil.
Also, I color code my roller bottles!
Recommended roller bottles:
- 5 ml roller bottles on amazon. These already have metal balls too.
- These are the 10 ml roller bottle on amazon. Also with metal rollers.
- The rainbow roller bottles. These are 10 ml with plastic rollers.

I’m glad I found your site. Your recipes look great. I’m looking forward to reading and learning more about the YL oils I received as a gift, and love.
Thanks for sharing what you have learned.
Carrie Jacobsen says
I have a severe allergy to nuts and to coconut. I use avocado oil as my carrier for roller bottles and for making many other items that call for coconut oil or another carrier. It is thinner than olive oil, has a very mild smell, and works absolutely beautifully.
Emily says
Sorry but that video on how to install a roller bottle is BS. Either that or I have a faulty one. I did EXACTLY what the instructions said, followed them to a T. I used only YL bottles. And I have the oil all over my floor to prove that you cannot just screw the cap on. You have to actually press the roller bottle top into the bottle until it snaps.
Nicolette Roux says
:-/ Mine seems to work like in the video. Sorry about the oil all over the floor 🙁
Alison says
How do you organize YOUR essential oils recipe book? I am having difficulty deciding what the colored tabs should be.
Nicolette Roux says
diffuser recipes, roller bottle, balms, I also have a tab for “when sick” and other that has recipes I use on the kids
Robert says
Will the Young living “Roller Fitments” (aromaglide) fit on the Rainbow Roller bottles? How about the roller bottles that you mentioned in this article?
Nicolette Roux says
you know I haven’t tried it! I don’t have any of the armaglide ones right now but i will try it when my next ER order arrives! ALSO some of those roller bottles also come with metal balls! (haven’t seen it on the rainbow though)
Shannon Slish says
How do you use the rainbow roller bottles with your oils if the balls aren’t metal?
Nicolette Roux says
I am not using citrus in the rollers. For oils that have citrus I use the metal balls. What you could also do is replace the plastic one with a metal one.
Andrea says
Don’t see any recipes
Nicolette Roux says
There are 20 recipes right under the image of the blank recipe book.
Sherrie says
The recipes are not showing under the blank recipe book. A list of items in the bundle is all that can be seen.
Nicolette Roux says
Thanks for letting me know! I found that there was an issue with the mobile site and disabled it until I can figure out why it is acting out like it is. It should show up now 🙂
Katie says
The 20 roller bottle recipes. I see the picture but not the actually recipes. I could see them when I first posted.
Katie says
What happened to the recipe?
Nicolette Roux says
which recipe?
Ashley says
Great recipes, thank you very much. I think these will combine very well with my essential oil diffuser at home…
Staci says
Nicolette is right. I have been using essential oils for quite a while and I have never been burned by an oil. I do not have sensitive skin and I do not dilute any oil I use on myself. For my kids, I dilute most oils, but it was not necessary to dilute all.
Susan Murphy says
Wow! Nicolette, I appreciate all of your information here. Seems other people should start a website so they can share their wealth of knowledge instead of trying to discredit yours. Again, thanks!
Kirsten says
You say to apply Valor, Peace and Calming, and Stress Away neat. Big no-no. Essential oils can cause burns and reactions just like a noxious weed can. Once applied neat it is next to impossible to remove the oil if there is a reaction.
The dilution of the roller ball recipes is not correct. There is too much EO and not enough carrier oil, especially when using a 5ml bottle.
Nicolette Roux says
The “Essential Oils Desk Reference” says these oils are ok to apply neat. (suitable for all but the most sensitive skin) if this is you then please do dilute it to try it out first.
Also if you apply an oil and it is too strong apply some olive oil to help dilute it then scrape it off. Repeat if needed.
Kirsten says
ALL oils must be diluted and many of your recipes, if not all, are not diluted correctly. People who follow these recipes could be hurt, especially if they apply them to children. Please learn about correct dilution and adjust your recipes accordingly..
Nicolette Roux says
Please read the recipes. they all say to TOP OFF with a carrier oil in a certain size bottle.
Carolyn says
You can search for dilution ratios and as Kirsten said, yours don’t seem to be diluted enough. What Ive read suggests 12 drops per oz of carrier oil (an oz is 30ml)
chiane says
1% is 5-6 for every ounce of carrier oil and 2% is 10-12 for every ounce of carrier oil. Never use more than 3% for massage blends or topical blends. AND for babies, pets and elderly the 1% dilution is cut in half! 😀 *I’m completing home study course to become certified aromatherapist*
Betsy says
Quality and purity of an EO affects the neat/dilute ratios. The more impurities – the more reactions. In generic classes and using lower quality EOs it is very wise to take a conservative ratio approach. Seed to Seal quality control effectively reduces those impurities. I have used YL brand (and others brands occasionally) for 10 years now and I have sensative skin people in my house. Keep doing what you do! I wouldn’t change these recipes.
