Dinosaur Pre-Writing Free Printable
Pre-writing activities are incredibly important for young children. They may seem simply like a game, but it is extremely helpful for preparing a child’s hand muscles and mind for writing in the future. Pre-writing activities can also help children strengthen reading skills as well. This dinosaur pre-writing activity is the perfect way to help your dinosaur loving children strengthen their handwriting skills!

Dinosaur Pre-writing Activity
There is something exciting about dinosaurs. Maybe it is that they once existed, but no longer do. Maybe it is because they were so large and yet most only at plants. Maybe it is because there is no other creature on the earth today that looks even remotely similar. Maybe an elephant, but that is about it. Whatever it is, they are so interesting. That is why I chose dinosaurs to be the theme of this pre-writing activity. Kids will see this activity as a game based on the theme alone. They will be having so much fun they will have no idea that they are strengthening so many skills and learning.
How to Prep this Activity:
You will only need a few things to prep and play with this activity.
- Printer
- Laminator
- Scissors
- Dry Erase Markers
- Dinosaur Manipulatives
- Optional: Crayons
The first thing I do to prep this dino pre-writing activity is to print the free printable. Cut the prewriting strips apart from each other.

The next step is optional. You can end here and start playing. You can use crayons or markers on the dino pre-writing strips. This would mean that they are one time use only, though. I like to laminate the strips so that we can use them over and over. If you choose to laminate, use dry erase markers or crayons with them. The writing can easily be wiped off and the strips can be reused. This is especially great if you are prepping this dino pre-writing activity for a classroom!

You can also use dinosaur manipulatives on these strips, or any manipulatives for that matter. The manipulatives can be added to the lines in patterns or can be slid along the line as well.
