Magnetic Letter Name Search Sensory Bin
Learning how to write and spell our names is often the first place that we start kids on their writing journey. Today we have used some magnetic letters in a sensory bin with a wand to have fun with this concept.
Materials needed for Magnetic Letter Name Search Sensory Bin!
- Color rice (you can see how we make our color rice here)
- Magnetic letters
- Magnetic Wand
- Medium to large tub
Color your rice and add it to the bin. Add in the magnetic letters and hide them in well so that they are buried under the rice mostly.
The kids then use their magnetic wands to dig around the sensory bin and bring up various letters. The then keep the letters that are from their name and put the other letters that are no in another container.
This activity has various “difficulty” levels. Use this activity for anything that uses letters!
Examples are:
Vowels—Search and sort the letters that are found by vowels and consonants
Sight words—Mix in a handful of sight words and have the child find all the letters then construct them. This usually goes well with a paper card sight word.
Sometimes the magnetic wand is abandoned for some more manual methods, such as hands! Kids love to feel the color rice.
