Yarn Wrapped Christmas Star Ornament

Do your kids like helping to decorate the Christmas Tree? Mine sure do! They like it so much that for the weeks while the tree is up, you can see them drawing the tree or making ornaments to put on the tree. We love our Christmas tree and this yarn star ornament!

Yarn Wrapped Christmas Star Ornaments

These stars are super easy to make! All you need are a few craft supplies and you might even have already.

  • Yarn
  • Popsicle Sticks
  • Glue
  • Buttons

The first step is to make the star. Arrange popsicle sticks into the star shape and glue the ends together.

Next, start wrapping the yarn. You can tie the end of the yarn off, glue it to the back or hold it with your finger to keep it in place to start wrapping.

Wrap as little or as much as you’d like. There is no right or wrong way to do it. We did it in a star like figure, so that it complemented the wood of the popsicle sticks. You don’t have to do this, though. You can do whatever you’d like.

The next step is to glue on buttons. These remind me of ornaments on a Christmas tree. The buttons add an extra pop of color that is just so fun! We did random colors, but you could do it monochromatic too, if you’d like.

As you can see from the pictures, we painted the popsicle sticks first. This is optional as well. If you’re wanting your stars to match a color scheme that you already have, this is a great way. Unpainted also looks cute if you’re looking for a more natural look.

To turn these stars into ornaments, you can glue extra yarn in a loop on the back of the star.

Additional Ideas:

  • Make multiple stars and turn it into a banner to hang across a window or mirror.
  • Use as gift tags.
  • Use as place setting name card holders.

This Angel ornament, Snowman ornament or Christmas wreath can also help get ready for Christmas.
