Dinosaur Matching Puzzle (Free Printable)

My 3-year-old LOVES dinosaurs (and cats); she often stalks around the house roaring at her brothers and sister. Today I made her a little puzzle game using her plastic dinosaur figurines. I have the files at the bottom for you to download, but I also explain how you make these printables yourself because we all know that the dinosaur sets are not all the same!

My daughter has big dinosaurs and little dinosaurs, so taking photos like this puts all the dinos at the same size. This, I think, turned into a fun game because she had to look for the matching ones without relying on size.

The matching of the dinosaurs is just a little extra to the puzzles themselves, so this activity will still work if you just print out the cards. I suggest printing them out on cardstock for a firmer puzzle.

6 of the puzzles are just adding 2 pieces together, so this would be suitable for younger children who are just starting out with puzzles and love dinosaurs too.

How to make your own cards:

(I Recommend printing on cardstock or laminate.)

If you would like to make your cards, all you need is a bit of white paper. Let it loop up on something (mine is one of the kids’ plastic baskets that held the dinos); use tape to secure it. Using either your camera or phone, take some pictures in a well-lit area. I have a huge window facing this setup.

Load your images up to picmonkey.com and create a “collage” of 4 grids 576×792 (letter size) and remove the padding. Print it out and cut it into whichever sizes you need.

Check out these dinosaur figurines to use if you don’t already have some.
