Preschool Science Experiment: Surprise Color Fizz!

My children just love a preschool science experiment! Fizzing things right now is the coolest thing ever to them and they just can’t get enough and I can’t set them up fast enough!

For this preschool science experiment, I decided to combine the thrill of fizzing with a surprise of color discovery!

Supplies for Preschool Science Experiment:

baking soda (1 cup)
food coloring
vinegar
small plastic glasses (shot glasses)
squeeze bottle for vinegar
container to contain reaction

I used 6 plastic shot glasses and positioned them in a tray with high sides. Scoop 1 tablespoon of baking soda into the cups, then add 4 drops of food coloring in the middle of the cup.

Scoop a 2nd tablespoon of baking soda on top of the food coloring. Do NOT mix.

Fill up your squeeze bottle with vinegar.

Let the kids start squirting the vinegar into the baking soda!

We played guess what color and then tried to get the one color to bubble faster than the others.

We also tried to get all the colors bubbling at the same time. This was a great practice to estimate how much vinegar we needed for reactions.

The colors then fizzed into each other and looked just so pretty!

At this point you can get a teaspoon out to see if mixing would result in more fizz as the children get the last of the baking soda to react to the vinegar.
