Today I have a colorful expansion on my original fizzy cloud dough idea. Make a RAINBOW!

Rainbow Fizzy Cloud Dough

To make a rainbow, you are going to need way smaller measurements of each color! Grab seven bowls to work with and your ingredients.

You will need per bowl/color:

  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Oil-based food coloring (gel/liquid works too but is not as vibrant)

First you need to mix the oil and coloring. We usually do this in a Ziploc bag with large quantities but today we did it straight in the bowl because of the smaller amounts.

Add the 2 tablespoons of oil and about 5 drops of color in the bowl and mix. This goes way easier if you are using oil coloring. The gel also did better than the liquid coloring. I have used both oil and gel to get my rainbow colors. Next add the flour, mix, then add the baking soda.

Once you get as far as you can with mixing with a spoon, use your fingers to get the oil perfectly distributed.

Then lay out your rainbow!

To get your fizz fill, fill a squirter bottle with vinegar and let the kids at it!

Fizzing reactions are top on the list of things for my kids to currently enjoy when it comes to experiments.

The cloud dough fizzes WAY more than my pictures! I ran out of baking soda. 🙁

But it is still a stunning experiment!
